Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo launched the Corporate Mentoring Program in 2017 at Father R. Perin School in Janvier in partnership with ConocoPhillips. Designed for youth aged 12–15 (grades 7–9), the program introduces career pathways, post‑secondary options, and employment‑readiness skills.
Corporate Mentoring combines structured in‑class learning with off‑site visits. Classroom sessions focus on skill development and career exploration, while site visits provide students with direct access to industry mentors and the opportunity to observe workplace operations firsthand. Each session targets a specific skill area, with core components that include strengths identification, translating interests into career options, mental health and wellness, interpersonal and leadership development, and practical workplace competencies.
Activities are designed to build confidence, resilience, and a clearer sense of future possibilities. These experiences allow students to engage with professionals, ask questions, and see career pathways in action, reinforcing classroom learning with real‑world context.
